The UIL state tennis meet in San Antonio was a historic event for Canyon ISD, as two teams made school history by clinching gold medals. Scout Adams and Cooper Richardson from West Plains became the first UIL state champions in the school’s history by winning the mixed doubles title. The duo faced tough competition throughout the tournament, including a rematch with their rivals from Hereford, but ultimately emerged victorious in a thrilling final match.

Meanwhile, the Randall girls’ doubles team of Gabby Dishong and Kynley Craddock also made waves by winning the UIL Class 4A girls doubles championship. The team had a whirlwind experience, juggling their tennis matches with participation in the state qualifying One-Act play. Despite the hectic schedule, Dishong and Craddock managed to secure the gold medal, marking a historic moment for Randall High School.

Additionally, the boys’ doubles team from Randall, Bryson Shelton and Dax Betzen, put up a strong fight in the finals but ultimately fell short against their opponents from Burkburnett. Despite the loss, the team’s impressive performance throughout the tournament was recognized, and head coach Darby Norman was honored as the NFHS sectional and national Tennis Coach of the Year.

Overall, the Amarillo-area teams put on a stellar performance at the state tennis meet, with multiple teams earning bronze medals. The event showcased the talent and dedication of the student-athletes, highlighting the competitive spirit and sportsmanship within the local tennis community.
