Capital City Cavaliers Make History, Advance to Tennis State Quarterfinals

In a historic moment for the Capital City Cavaliers tennis program, the team has advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time ever. The Cavaliers secured their spot in the quarterfinals by defeating the Rolla Bulldogs 5-3 in the Class 2 District 5 Tournament championship dual on Friday.

Head coach Jesse Brown expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishment, stating, “It’s one of those things where you put the goal on the board at the beginning of the year, but as the year progresses, that goal looks a little less attainable than you hoped. But we kept winning at the end. We’re really proud of the guys.”

Despite dropping the district championship in the past two seasons, the Cavaliers were able to overcome the odds this year. With a lineup of returning starters and a new coach at the helm, the team finished the regular season with a 6-8 record, facing tough competition along the way.

Now, with a five-dual winning streak leading into the state tournament, the Cavaliers are gearing up to face the Branson Pirates in the quarterfinal match. Brown emphasized the importance of staying focused and working together as a team to continue their success in the tournament.

The winner of the match between Capital City and Branson will move on to face either the Warrensburg Tigers or Platte County Pirates in the state semifinals. With high stakes and tough competition ahead, the Cavaliers are ready to give it their all and make their mark in the state tournament.

As the team prepares for the upcoming match, the entire Capital City community is rallying behind them, showing their support and excitement for this historic moment in Cavaliers tennis history.
