Capital High School’s Spring Production Takes on a Hollywood Theme

Capital High School is bringing Shakespeare to Hollywood in their upcoming spring production of “Shakespeare in Hollywood.” The play, based on Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” takes a comedic twist as actors find themselves in 1940s Hollywood.

Director Laura Brayko shared that the Royal Shakespeare Company commissioned Ken Ludwig to write the play, blending history with Shakespearean humor. The plot revolves around a magical flower that causes the cast to fall in love with the wrong people, leading to hilarious misunderstandings.

The production features a talented cast, with many underclassmen and sophomores taking on complex roles. Junior Aaron Heisel plays a character who plays another character within the play, adding layers of depth to the performance.

Senior Savannah Comstock, who plays a “gossip girl” from the 1940s, expressed mixed emotions as this will be her final high school production before graduation. She highlighted the camaraderie among the cast, making the experience both fun and rewarding.

Head of costumes, senior Jazmine-Kharma Mudget, described the production as a full-circle moment in her high school career. She emphasized the importance of color coordination in costumes to enhance character dynamics on stage.
