Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni have etched their names in the history books of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by winning the joint-most titles as captains. Both Sharma and Dhoni have led their respective teams to the coveted IPL trophy on multiple occasions, showcasing their leadership skills and cricketing acumen.

Shane Warne was the first overseas captain to lift the IPL trophy in 2008 when he led the Rajasthan Royals to victory. Adam Gilchrist followed suit in 2009 with the Deccan Chargers, while MS Dhoni led the Chennai Super Kings to their first title in 2010. Dhoni continued his winning streak by defending the title in 2011, making him the first captain to achieve this feat.

Gautam Gambhir led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2012, breaking CSK’s winning streak. Rohit Sharma made his mark as a captain in 2013 when he led the Mumbai Indians to their maiden title. Sharma continued his success in 2015 and 2017, adding two more titles to his name.

In 2016, David Warner captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first IPL title, while MS Dhoni reclaimed the trophy with CSK in 2018. Rohit Sharma led MI to victory in 2019 and 2020, becoming the first captain to win five IPL titles. Dhoni added another title to his name in 2021 before handing over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022.

In 2023, Dhoni returned as captain to lead CSK to their record-equalling fifth title. The latest addition to the list of successful captains is Shreyas Iyer, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2024, marking his name in IPL history.

With their exceptional leadership skills and ability to bring out the best in their teams, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni have set a benchmark for future IPL captains to aspire to. Their success on the field has solidified their legacy as two of the greatest captains in IPL history.
