Carrefour Sponsors Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run to Promote Healthy Living and Community Engagement
Carrefour, a leading retailer in Uganda, has announced a sponsorship of UGX7 million for the upcoming Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run. This annual event, known as Uganda’s only ultra-challenge marathon, is scheduled to take place on May 4, 2024, at the Kyambogo University Cricket Oval.
The Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, now in its 14th edition, has become a popular event for fitness enthusiasts and running clubs in Kampala and beyond. It serves as a rigorous fitness test and a platform for athletes preparing for continental marathons.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed excitement for the partnership, stating, “We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, and the sponsorship of the Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run reflects this commitment.” He emphasized the importance of promoting health and well-being through sports.
Julius Nkuraija, CEO of Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run, welcomed Carrefour’s sponsorship, noting its significance in ensuring the event’s success and raising awareness about health and fitness in Uganda. He also revealed plans to incorporate an environmental protection cause into the run as it grows.
Carrefour’s involvement in community initiatives goes beyond the Kyambogo Ultra Challenge Run. Their “Round Up Your Bill” campaign allows customers to donate towards supporting vulnerable groups in neighboring communities, raising over UGX 290 million since its launch in 2021.
