The Marshall softball team had a mixed bag of results in their doubleheader against Pipestone Area on Thursday. In the first game, the Tigers came out swinging, scoring seven runs in the first inning to set the tone for a dominant 9-1 victory. Jayda Bednarek and Morgan Bjella kickstarted the scoring with a walk and an error, setting up Halla Casavan for a double that drove in two runs. Errors and hits continued to pile up for Marshall, with Naya Grahn and Brielle Riess contributing to the offensive onslaught.
Bjella was stellar on the mound, striking out 15 batters and only allowing one unearned run. Despite a few hiccups in the field, the Tigers maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game.
In the second game, Marshall held a 2-0 lead heading into the final inning, but Pipestone Area staged a late comeback to snatch a 3-2 victory. Alyssa Enger and Kaitlyn Adelman sparked the rally for the Arrows, scoring crucial runs to tie the game. A costly error by the Tigers allowed Pipestone to take the lead, and Marshall couldn’t muster a response in their final at-bat.
Despite the loss, Marshall showed resilience and determination throughout both games. Brielle Riess and Halla Casavan were standout performers for the Tigers, contributing both offensively and defensively. The team will look to bounce back in their next game against Worthington, eager to build on their early-season successes and iron out any lingering issues from the doubleheader.
