Catalina Foothills Tennis Dominates Arizona State Championships

Sixteen high school tennis teams are gearing up for the Arizona Division II state team championships, but all eyes are on the powerhouse that is Catalina Foothills. The boys and girls teams from Catalina Foothills have been dominating the state championships for years, with the girls team boasting an impressive 18 state championships since the 1999-2000 school year.

The boys team, with 17 state championships under their belt, is no stranger to success either. Both teams are led by dedicated coaches who have fostered a culture of excellence and success within the program.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, both teams have continued to excel on the court. The boys team, led by junior Austin Cohen and Jason Jia, is currently the top seed in Division II, with Cohen being touted as the best player in the division.

On the girls side, coach Daniel Root has faced some challenges with a young team, but they have still managed to secure a spot in the playoffs. With strong players like Gracie Petrow and Charlotte Henderson leading the way, the girls team is ready to compete for another championship.

The close-knit relationship between the boys and girls teams at Catalina Foothills has created a supportive and competitive environment that motivates each player to strive for excellence.
