The Catalina Foothills High School tennis program in Tucson is gearing up for the 2024 AIA Division II Team Championship playoffs, with both the girls and boys teams eyeing another shot at the state title. The Falcons have a storied history in tennis, with the girls team boasting 18 state championships and the boys team not far behind with 17 titles.
Coaches Jeffry Bloomberg and Daniel Root have been instrumental in leading their teams to success, with a close relationship that has helped guide the players through challenges on and off the court. Despite the disruptions caused by COVID-19, both teams have remained focused and determined to reclaim the championship they believe they deserve.
Junior Austin Cohen and Jason Jia lead the boys team, with Cohen ranked as the top singles player in Division II. The boys team heads into the playoffs as the top seed, with a 12-1 record and high hopes for another title run. On the girls side, sophomores Gracie Petrow and junior Charlotte Henderson are the top doubles pair in Division II, bringing a strong foundation to the team’s playoff aspirations.
As the Falcons prepare to kick off their playoff matches, the players are focused on staying motivated and working together to overcome any challenges that come their way. With a strong sense of camaraderie and a history of success, both the girls and boys teams are ready to compete at the highest level and bring home another banner for Catalina Foothills High School.
