TORONTO, May 29, 2024 /CNW/ – As National Health and Fitness Day approaches on June 1, ParticipACTION is gearing up to launch its Community Challenge in search of Canada’s Most Active Community. The initiative, presented by Novo Nordisk, aims to encourage people across the country to get active and support local sport and physical activity initiatives.

ParticipACTION is partnering with various organizations to provide free or low-cost programming throughout June to help communities participate in the challenge. The Community Challenge is open to all communities and individuals, with events registered on the Challenge webpage counting towards a community’s total score.

Elio Antunes, President and CEO of ParticipACTION, emphasizes the importance of community-focused initiatives in promoting physical activity and creating a sense of belonging. The goal is to engage as many people and organizations as possible to mobilize communities and support active living.

Novo Nordisk Canada President, Vince Lamanna, highlights the company’s commitment to supporting the health of Canadians and preventing chronic diseases through physical activity. By working with ParticipACTION, Novo Nordisk aims to drive positive change and build healthier communities for generations to come.

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge has seen past winners like Enderby, BC, North Grenville, ON, Red Deer, AB, and Salisbury, NB. These communities have used the grand prize of $100,000 to enhance local initiatives and promote physical activity.

The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, encourages Canadians to join in and explore physical activities that fit their lifestyles. By moving together, Canadians can lead longer, healthier, and happier lives.
