Glen Powell, star of the hit rom-com Anyone But You and the upcoming Top Gun sequel, is making a surprising career move that has Hollywood buzzing. The 35-year-old actor has decided to leave the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles behind and head back to his home state of Texas to be closer to his family.

In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell revealed that he has sold his house in the Hollywood Hills and plans to finish his college degree at the University of Texas, a dream he had put on hold to pursue his acting career in his early 20s. Despite his recent success in Hollywood, Powell feels that now is the right time to make the move back to his roots.

The decision was solidified by advice from fellow Texan and Hollywood veteran Matthew McConaughey, who told Powell that Hollywood was like “the Matrix” and that Austin, Texas, where McConaughey resides, was where his actions truly mattered. Powell realized that he wanted to be closer to his aging parents and young niece and nephew, and that his Hollywood career could continue while being based in Texas.

Powell’s decision to turn down a role in the next Jurassic Park movie, despite being a lifelong fan of the franchise, shows his commitment to prioritizing his own happiness and well-being over career opportunities. This move also puts Powell in the company of other actors who have chosen to leave Hollywood for a simpler life, such as Mischa Barton, Hayden Christensen, Quentin Tarantino, and Ian Somerhalder.

As Powell embarks on this new chapter in his life, fans are eager to see how his career will evolve and how his decision to leave Hollywood will impact his future projects.
