Celine Dion Opens Up About Battle with Rare Neurological Disorder

In a candid interview with Hoda Kotb, Celine Dion revealed her ongoing battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. The 56-year-old singer described the condition as feeling like someone is strangling her, with symptoms affecting various parts of her body, including her larynx, abdomen, spine, ribs, and hands.

Dion first disclosed her diagnosis in December 2022 and is set to further discuss her journey with the autoimmune disease in her upcoming documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion,” scheduled for release on June 25 via Prime Video. The Mayo Clinic defines Stiff-Person Syndrome as a disorder characterized by involuntary stiffness of muscles and painful spasms triggered by emotional stimuli.

Due to her health struggles, Dion had to cancel her “Courage World Tour,” expressing the difficulty of not being able to perform for her fans. Despite the challenges, she remains determined to overcome the disorder and eventually return to the stage. In an Instagram post on International Stiff-Person Syndrome Awareness Day, she shared her determination to live as normal a life as possible despite the obstacles.

Fans and supporters of Celine Dion are eagerly awaiting the release of her documentary to gain further insight into her journey with Stiff-Person Syndrome and her resilience in the face of adversity.
