The Central College men’s tennis team secured their spot in the American Rivers Conference postseason tournament with a dominant 9-0 victory over the University of Dubuque. The win improved Central’s record to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play, guaranteeing them at least the sixth seed in the upcoming tournament.

Head coach Ryun Ferrell expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially considering the challenging weather conditions. “It’s good to qualify for the tournament,” Ferrell said. “Now we just need to pick off as many teams as we can to get the best possible seed.”

Freshman Gavin Jablonski made an impressive conference dual debut, securing a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 singles spot. Ferrell praised Jablonski’s performance, noting that he defeated a strong opponent who could trouble other players in the league.

Other standout performances included Ayden Fletcher’s win at the No. 1 singles spot, AJ Wilkins’ victory at No. 2 singles, and Ernest Alvarez Chedzoy’s success at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, Wilkins and Travis Subbert, as well as Alex Slaymaker and Fletcher, secured wins for Central.

Looking ahead, Central College is gearing up to face Loras College at home on Saturday morning. Coach Ferrell expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming match, stating, “We’re ready to take on Loras tomorrow.” With four matches remaining in the regular season, Central is determined to continue their winning streak and secure a strong seed in the postseason tournament.
