Central Mountain Makes School History with First-Ever State Semifinal Appearance

DUBOIS — Central Mountain senior Harley Kunes and the Wildcats had a chance at redemption in the PIAA Class 5A quarterfinals against the Armstrong River Hawks. The Wildcats, with a record of 16-5, were determined to make it to a state semifinal game after missing out on the opportunity a couple of years ago.

In a thrilling game at Heindl Field, Central Mountain made history by defeating the River Hawks 4-1 and securing their first-ever state semifinal appearance. The Wildcats showcased their offensive prowess with Kunes hitting a three-run home run and freshman Camdyn Weaver adding a solo shot in the second inning.

Coach Fred Caldwell expressed his optimism and confidence in the team’s performance, praising their solid defense and timely hitting. The Wildcats finished the game with eight hits, including key contributions from Kunes, Weaver, and senior center fielder Madisyn Wian.

Pitcher Adalynn McKeague delivered a stellar performance on the mound, striking out five batters and leading the team to victory. Central Mountain’s defense also played a crucial role in limiting Armstrong to just five hits and one run.
