CEO predicts new technology will increase Hindustan Zinc’s metal recovery rate to 98.5%

Hindustan Zinc, one of the leading zinc producers in India, is all set to revolutionize its operations with a new technology partnership. The company has joined hands with Bhopal-based VEXL Environ Projects Pvt Ltd to implement a cutting-edge technology that aims to increase metal recovery rates and eliminate waste generation.

According to Arun Misra, the chief executive of Hindustan Zinc, the new technology has the potential to boost the zinc metal recovery rate from the current 97% to an impressive 98.5%. This innovative approach will not only enhance the efficiency of the company’s operations but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing waste.

The technology will transform discharges like jarosite, which were previously sent to landfills, into valuable byproducts that can be utilized in industries such as fertilizers and paints. This move aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to achieving its sustainability targets and reducing its environmental footprint.

The pilot project is expected to take around 15-16 months to become operational, following which the company plans to scale up the project to minimize its reliance on fumers for metal recovery. VEXL Environ Projects, known for its expertise in waste management and water neutrality solutions, is at the forefront of developing indigenous technologies for a cleaner and greener future.

Despite a slight decrease in mined metal output in the last quarter, Hindustan Zinc remains optimistic about its future growth prospects. The company’s focus on innovation and sustainability is not only driving operational efficiencies but also positioning it as a leader in the global metal industry. Investors have already shown confidence in the company, with shares closing higher on the National Stock Exchange amidst a challenging market environment.
