Chair of the Freedom Caucus loses Trump endorsement shortly after attending Manhattan hush money trial

Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind John McGuire, a Republican candidate running against Bob Good in Virginia’s 5th congressional district primary race. This endorsement comes just days after Good, the chair of the Freedom Caucus, traveled to New York to show support for Trump during his trial for a hush money scheme.

In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Good for turning his back on the “incredible movement” and attacking him until recently when he gave a “loving” endorsement. Trump declared that it was too late and that the damage had been done. He then went on to endorse McGuire, praising him for his frontline fight against cartels and drug dealers in Virginia.

The endorsement from Trump is a clear sign of the heightened level of loyalty expected from GOP members of Congress to the party’s presumed nominee for president, despite the criminal charges Trump faces. This move could have significant implications for the primary race in Virginia’s 5th district, which is expected to be highly competitive.

McGuire, who received Trump’s “total” support, expressed gratitude for the endorsement and vowed to back Trump’s agenda and put America first if elected to Congress. The former president’s involvement in the race adds another layer of complexity to the already contentious primary, as Virginia once again emerges as a major battleground in the political landscape.
