The Challenger Learning Center in Dayton is taking students on an out-of-this-world adventure with its immersive space exploration programs. Located next to Kiser Elementary, the Center offers a unique experience for students to learn about space in a hands-on way.

One of the highlights of the Center is the “Moon Room,” where students can don astronaut gear and walk on a foam floor meant to resemble the moon’s surface. In the launch hallway, students buckle up for a simulated space launch complete with flashing lights, sounds, and fog. Inside the space shuttle, each student has an assigned task, from communicating with mission control to testing rock samples.

The latest mission offered at the Challenger Center is the “Expedition to Mars,” where students simulate a landing on Mars and search for water and signs of life. Students at Mission Control on Mars’ moon, Phobos, work together to ensure the mission’s success, fostering critical thinking and teamwork skills.

In addition to these exciting programs, the Center also features an interactive timeline of space exploration history and offers field trips and school visits for all Dayton Public Schools students. As summer approaches, the Challenger Center is gearing up for summer camps and STEM labs, providing even more opportunities for children in the Dayton area to experience the wonders of space.
