The Champion Golden Flashes are once again district champions after a 4-0 victory over Lakeview in the Division III, LaBrae District final. The game was a showcase of talent and determination as both teams battled it out on the field.

Champion started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to Zoe Palette and Hailey Householder. The game remained tight until the fifth inning when Champion’s Gabby Gradishar, a Penn State commit, hit a home run, extending their lead and solidifying their victory.

Coach Cheryl Weaver praised her team’s performance, highlighting Gradishar’s pitching and the team’s solid defense. Lakeview put up a good fight, but ultimately fell short in the face of Champion’s strong offense and defense.

Despite the loss, Lakeview coach David Kelm commended his team for their high energy and support for each other throughout the season. The Bulldogs graduate two seniors but have a promising group of returners for next season.

Champion (20-4) will now face Creston Norwayne in the regional semifinals, with the game set for Wednesday at the Roehm Athletic Complex in Berea. Norwayne, the district winner, will provide a tough challenge for the Golden Flashes as they look to continue their winning streak.

The game was a testament to the hard work and dedication of both teams, and fans can expect an exciting matchup in the regional semifinals. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling high school softball season.
