Elkins High School’s Ben Tenney dominated the Class AA, Region II track and field meet, winning three individual events and helping his team secure the team title. Tenney showcased his talent by finishing first in the 800-meter run, the 1,600, and the 3,200, earning high-point honors with 32.5 points.

In addition to his individual victories, Tenney also contributed to the team’s success by joining the 4×800 relay team, which included Josh Bodkins, Bobby Valentine, and Gavin Brown, to secure another first-place finish. The Tigers’ strong performance didn’t stop there, as they qualified three other relay teams for the state meet.

Teammate Trevor George also had an impressive showing, qualifying for states in three individual events – the 800, 1,600, and 3,200. Elkins High School’s overall performance was outstanding, with several athletes earning spots in the state meet in various events.

Coach Shane Richardson expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “Tonight we saw the type of performances we have trained for all season. States was the aim from day one and 22 of our athletes achieved that goal.” The Tigers accumulated 132.5 points, securing the team title ahead of Philip Barbour.

The state meet is set to take place on May 17-18 at Charleston’s Laidley Field, where Elkins High School will look to continue their success and showcase their talent on a larger stage.
