Changes to Education Programs Planned for New North Attleboro High School | Local News

A new high school in North Attleboro is set to revolutionize education with a focus on tying subjects together to prepare students for the future. The proposed educational plan includes three hubs: fabrication, communication, and the environment, each incorporating multiple curricula.

The plan, developed with input from residents, students, and staff, aims to guide the design of a new or renovated high school. Superintendent John Antonucci described it as a vision for teaching and learning in the coming decades, reflecting the values of the community.

Principal Peter Haviland expressed excitement about the future, highlighting a new mission and educational model born out of the pandemic years. The plan also includes provisions for more hands-on learning opportunities, catering to students interested in vocational courses.

Architects discussed preliminary plans to use part of the existing 65-acre site for construction and improve traffic flow around the school. Neighbor Darla Leighton, while initially shocked by the news of a new school, acknowledged the efforts to address traffic concerns in the area.

The project is currently in a $2 million feasibility study phase, with plans to present it to voters for approval next April. Another community forum is scheduled for June 18 to unveil conceptual building layout options, bringing the vision of a new high school in North Attleboro one step closer to reality.
