With the Amex Gold Card, the writer aims to earn more valuable Amex Membership Rewards points, which can be transferred to a variety of leading loyalty programs, including airlines and hotel chains. This move allows the writer to have more options for redemptions and a broader range of earning and redeeming potential.

By shifting their focus from solely earning Avios to accumulating Membership Rewards points, the writer hopes to maximize the value they get from their points and have more strategic options for future redemptions.
