The Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers continued their early-season dominance in Tomahawk Conference baseball with a convincing 12-3 win over Wabasso on Thursday at Mueller Park in New Ulm.
The Chargers took an early lead, scoring 8 runs in the first three innings before sealing the game with 4 more runs in the sixth inning. MVL has now outscored their first four conference opponents 51-7, maintaining a perfect 4-0 record in conference play.
Pitcher Bradyn Kube led the way for the Chargers, allowing only three unearned runs in four innings while striking out four. Josh Vanderplas closed out the game, pitching the final three innings and giving up only two hits.
Offensively, Vanderplas also shined with two hits and three RBIs. Wabasso’s Jaxson Wagner managed to get two hits for his team.
Chargers’ head coach Jim Buboltz praised his team’s performance but highlighted the need for better defense and capitalizing on scoring opportunities, as they left 13 runners on base during the game.
Despite the 12-run output, Buboltz emphasized the importance of improving their two-strike approach and maximizing scoring chances with runners in scoring position.
With the win, the Chargers remain undefeated in conference play and look forward to their upcoming game against Springfield on April 18. Buboltz commended his pitching duo of Kube and Vanderplas for their solid performance and teamwork on the mound.
