Chargers select Brenden Rice, son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, in NFL Draft

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Brenden Rice, son of NFL legend Jerry Rice, was drafted in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy, Brenden has the opportunity to make a name for himself in the league.

Starting his college career at Colorado before transferring to USC, Brenden had a breakout season with the Trojans, leading the team in receiving touchdowns and yards. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, Brenden ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine, showcasing his speed and size as a potential asset for the Chargers.

The draft day was bittersweet for Brenden, as he attended the funeral of his best friend who passed away two weeks prior. Despite the emotional turmoil, Brenden remained focused on his NFL dreams and was grateful for the opportunity to be drafted.

Notably, Brenden is not the first Rice family member to pursue a career in the NFL. Jerry Rice Jr., Brenden’s older brother, also had aspirations of playing professionally but went undrafted and ultimately retired from football.

With Brenden’s selection in the draft, the Rice family has another chance at NFL success. While the shadow of his father’s legacy looms large, Brenden is determined to carve his own path and make a name for himself in the league. As he embarks on this new chapter in his football career, all eyes will be on Brenden Rice as he seeks to leave his mark on the NFL.
