ChatGPT achieves record-breaking growth, surpasses 100 million users in just 2 months

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ChatGPT, the AI chatbot developed by OpenAI and backed by Elon Musk, has achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching 100 million users just two months after its launch in December last year. According to a report by SimilarWeb, the chatbot is attracting a staggering 13 million users per day as of January. This rapid growth has surpassed the user acquisition rates of popular social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, which took 2.5 years and 9 months, respectively, to reach the same milestone.

The chatbot, known for its conversational abilities and prompt responses, has seen a surge in traffic on its website chat.openai.com, with an estimated 25 million daily visitors over the past week. The site’s traffic has been growing at an average rate of 3.4% per day for the past month, reaching a peak of 28 million visits on January 31 from 15.7 million unique visitors.

The exponential growth of ChatGPT has caught the attention of industry giants like Google, with CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledging the significance of AI technology and the widespread adoption of ChatGPT by users worldwide. In response to the success of ChatGPT, China’s Baidu has announced plans to develop its own AI chatbot to rival OpenAI’s creation.

OpenAI has also introduced a premium subscription model called ChatGPT Plus, priced at $20 per month and currently available only in the US. This subscription offers users faster response times, prioritized access to new features, and enhanced services during peak times. The success of ChatGPT and the introduction of ChatGPT Plus highlight the growing demand for AI-powered conversational tools in the digital landscape.
