Chiefs’ Harrison Butker criticizes Pride month and women in speech

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made headlines with his controversial commencement address at Benedictine College last weekend. The three-time Super Bowl champion did not hold back as he criticized Pride month, working women, President Biden’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, and abortion.

Butker, known for his conservative Catholic beliefs, started his address by denouncing what he called “dangerous gender ideologies” associated with Pride month. He also took a swipe at Biden’s handling of the pandemic, blaming bad policies and poor leadership for negative impacts on major life issues such as abortion.

The Chiefs declined to comment on Butker’s controversial remarks, but the team has been facing challenges off the field as well. A recent ballot initiative to fund renovations to Arrowhead Stadium was rejected by voters, and wide receiver Rashee Rice has been involved in legal troubles, including charges of aggravated assault.

Despite the offseason drama, Butker remains a standout player for the Chiefs, holding the franchise record for the longest field goal. His on-field success contrasts with the controversy surrounding his recent speech, leaving fans and critics alike divided on his outspoken views.
