Children at Woburn G4D event test ‘world-first’ prosthetic arm

A groundbreaking prosthetic arm designed specifically for young golfers with upper limb differences was put to the test at The G4D Open at Woburn on May 16. The innovative device, developed by UK-based Koalaa in partnership with EDGA, aims to enhance the playing experience for children with congenital below-elbow limb differences.

During a special coaching session led by golf coach Mark Taylor, primary-aged children with limb differences had the opportunity to use the Koalaa prosthetic for the first time on a specially designed course at Woburn. The session marked a significant milestone in the development process, following months of research and testing.

The children, who received their prosthetics through the charitable initiative Project Limitless, were able to play three holes with the new device, showcasing its unique benefits. Unlike traditional prosthetics, Koalaa’s lightweight and breathable design allows for maximum comfort and functionality, making it ideal for young users.

Nate Macabuag, founder of Koalaa, expressed his excitement at seeing the children embrace the prosthetic and enjoy the game of golf. The collaboration between Koalaa and EDGA aims to inspire individuals with limb differences of all ages to participate in golf and other activities, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the sport.

EDGA, known for its commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities in golf, works with National Golf Federations to welcome new players into the game. The partnership with Koalaa represents a significant step towards making golf more accessible for individuals with limb differences, showcasing the power of innovation and collaboration in the sports industry.
