White Rock Mom Launches Kids Business Bootcamp to Teach Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship
A White Rock mom is on a mission to equip children with essential business skills through a pioneering summer camp initiative. Shweta Sekhon, who has a business and STEM background, has partnered with the City of White Rock to launch Kids Business Bootcamp.
The weeklong program, designed by Sekhon and an elementary school teacher, aims to instill financial literacy and entrepreneurial acumen in young minds. With different themes each week, children will have a unique learning experience that includes exploring luxury brands, sustainability, and the automotive industry.
Sekhon, a business school professor, shared that her own success in STEM led to lucrative jobs, but without an understanding of business principles, her career path was limited. She wants better for her kids and hopes to see them become savvy entrepreneurs and wise consumers from a young age.
The camp encourages children to reflect on their passions, take risks, and collaborate with peers. Through fun and interactive experiences, young minds are empowered to navigate the complexities of the business world with confidence.
Camps are open to children aged six to 12 and are already filling up, but there are still spots remaining for many of the courses. The camps will run during the weeks of July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 12, with morning and afternoon options available. Registration is online at whiterockcity.ca/register or by calling 604-541-2199.
