China denounces fatal attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria | Global News

China condemned the deadly air strikes that destroyed the consular annex at the Iranian embassy in Damascus, resulting in the deaths of two high-level members of Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iranian and Syrian officials pointed fingers at Israel for the attack, although Israel chose not to comment on the matter.

Iran vowed a strong response to the strikes, raising concerns about escalating violence between Israel and Tehran’s allies amid the ongoing Gaza war. China, a close partner of Iran and its largest trade partner, expressed its condemnation of the attack, emphasizing the importance of respecting diplomatic institutions’ security and Syria’s sovereignty.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, stated, “The security of diplomatic institutions cannot be violated, and Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity should be respected.” China, a key ally of Syria, has been actively involved in the region’s political dynamics.

In addition to condemning the attack in Syria, China also denounced a strike in the Gaza Strip that resulted in the deaths of seven aid workers. China has historically supported the Palestinian cause and called for a ceasefire in Gaza since the conflict began. Wang emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones, urging all parties, especially Israel, to prevent further humanitarian disasters.

The escalating tensions in the Middle East have drawn international condemnation, with China playing a significant role in advocating for peace and stability in the region.
