Taiwan reported heightened Chinese military activity near the island on Saturday, with 12 aircraft crossing the sensitive median line of the Taiwan Strait. This provocative move came just a day after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded his visit to China.

The incoming Taiwan President-elect, Lai Ching-te, who assumes office on May 20, has called for dialogue with China. However, Beijing views him as a separatist threat and has rejected his overtures for talks.
