Choice points now required for Preferred Hotels & Resorts accommodations

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Choice Hotels & Resorts has recently made changes to its award rates for Preferred Hotels & Resorts stays, leaving many travelers disappointed. Previously, guests could redeem between 25,000 to 55,000 Choice points per night at participating properties. However, less than three months after the option to book online was introduced, award rates have increased significantly.

According to Travel with Grant, award rates at many Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties have now jumped, with guests needing to redeem between 20,000 and 87,000 Choice points per night. Despite this increase, six hotels still advertise previous award rates on the Choice Hotels website.

For example, the Splendid Venice Venezia-Starhotels Collezione in Venice, Italy, previously cost 55,000 Choice points per night but now requires 66,000 points per night. Similarly, the Hollywood Roosevelt in Los Angeles saw its award rates increase from 45,000 to 51,000 points per night.

The list goes on, with properties like Cavallo Point in San Francisco now costing 71,000 points per night, and some properties reaching as high as 87,000 points per night. This change has left many travelers reconsidering their redemption options.

Despite the disappointment, some travelers are looking for alternative ways to maximize their Choice points, such as redeeming them for stays in Japan or taking advantage of Choice Hotels Sweet Spot Rewards properties. As the travel landscape continues to evolve, travelers are advised to stay informed about their redemption options to make the most of their loyalty points.
