Choose a candidate who prioritizes quality education for all of Idaho’s children

Idaho’s public education system narrowly escaped a potential blow this legislative session as the push for school vouchers was narrowly avoided. These vouchers, which divert taxpayer dollars away from local schools to benefit wealthy families, were a hotly debated topic in the state.

One of the key figures in this debate was Rep. Wendy Horman, a former member of the Bonneville School District Board of Trustees. Despite her claims of advocating for quality education for all children, her support for vouchers raised concerns about where her priorities truly lie.

The track record of school vouchers in other states has shown ballooning costs, lack of academic improvement, and a lack of accountability for taxpayer funds. Instead of addressing the pressing needs of public schools, vouchers primarily benefit students already enrolled in private schools.

Governor Little highlighted the need for billions of dollars to address the crumbling state of Idaho’s public school buildings, emphasizing the importance of investing in the future of education in the state.

As the legislative session comes to a close, the focus now shifts to the upcoming election. Rep. Horman is being challenged by fellow Republican Sean Colleti, the Mayor of Ammon, who has shown a commitment to enhancing local education and supporting small businesses.

With the Republican Primary approaching on May 21, voters in district 32 have the opportunity to choose a candidate who will prioritize education and listen to the needs of their constituents. The outcome of this election could have a significant impact on the future of education in Idaho.
