Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has issued a warning to Formula 1 rivals interested in signing legendary designer Adrian Newey, stating that it would be a “very complicated business” due to the current nature of the sport.
Newey, who has been with Red Bull for 18 years, is known for his innovative designs and unique way of working with pencil and paper before transferring his designs into CAD software. Horner explained that Red Bull has evolved around Newey’s methods and that his upcoming departure in 2025 has been anticipated by the team.
Ferrari and Aston Martin are reportedly considering making a move for Newey, but Horner cautioned that building a team around the design guru could prove challenging given the constraints of the cost cap in Formula 1.
Despite the potential challenges, Red Bull has continued to excel on the track, currently leading both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships this season. Max Verstappen is comfortably ahead in the Drivers’ standings, while Red Bull holds a 52-point lead over Ferrari in the Constructors’ table after the recent Miami Grand Prix.
As Newey’s departure looms, Horner emphasized the need for teams to carefully consider where they allocate their resources and how they adapt to changes in the sport. He highlighted the importance of evolving and staying ahead in a competitive environment like Formula 1.
With Newey’s future uncertain, the Formula 1 world will be watching closely to see how his departure from Red Bull unfolds and what impact it may have on the landscape of the sport.
