The Denver Broncos Foundation, in partnership with the Broncos and CHSAA, has made significant strides in promoting girls flag football in the state of Colorado. The pilot program, launched in 2021 and funded for the inaugural seasons from 2022-23, has seen a remarkable increase in participation and enthusiasm.
In 2023, the program experienced a 161 percent increase in the number of participants, with 1,316 girls taking part in nearly 680 games. This growth is a testament to the impact of the program in empowering young female athletes and breaking down barriers in sports.
CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger expressed his excitement about the program’s success, highlighting the importance of empowerment, teamwork, and equality in sports. He emphasized the positive impact of girls flag football in fostering leadership, confidence, and inclusivity among participants.
The Denver Broncos have been strong supporters of the program, hosting championship tournaments and exhibition events at their training center. Broncos leadership and players have shown their support by attending these events and encouraging the young athletes.
With the official sanctioning of the sport, the Denver Broncos Foundation will continue to support girls flag football through various initiatives, including seasonal programming, coaching clinics, athlete and coach recognition, and youth health and wellness programs. The future looks bright for girls flag football in Colorado, as these young athletes continue to redefine the playing field and inspire generations to come.
