Sports Legends Inducted into Mid-Ohio Valley Hall of Fame

VIENNA — The Grand Pointe Convention Center was buzzing with excitement as the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame welcomed its class of 2024. The star-studded lineup included Bryan Canterbury, Michael Cox, Janet Frazier, H. Dugan Hill, Megan McCauley, David Mossor, Rod O’Donnell, Timothy Phillips, Fred Sauro, and Jim Wharton.

Canterbury, a Ravenswood alumnus, kicked off the induction ceremony. He played a pivotal role in Ravenswood’s 17 state titles, particularly in boys cross country. Cox, a standout running back from St. Marys, showcased his talent both in high school and at the collegiate level.

Frazier, the legendary volleyball coach from Wirt County, was honored for leading her team to 11 state championships. Hill, the Caldwell Cross Country coach, defied the odds by winning nine state titles without a proper track facility.

McCauley, a multi-sport athlete from Marietta, excelled in basketball, track, soccer, and cross country. Mossor, the softball coach from Ritchie County, celebrated his 800th win and shared his journey to coaching success.

O’Donnell, a Belpre High School graduate, made his mark as a cross country coach at Caldwell and Parkersburg. Phillips, a swimming sensation from PHS, continued his success at Ohio State University and on the U.S. National Team.

Sauro, the winningest girls basketball coach in West Virginia, reflected on his 54-year coaching career at Williamstown. Wharton, the beloved sports broadcaster from WTAP, was recognized for his contributions to the local sports community.

The evening was filled with nostalgia, laughter, and heartfelt speeches as these sports legends were immortalized in the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame. The class of 2024 truly embodies the spirit of dedication, perseverance, and passion for sports.
