The North County boys team tennis season came to an end in a tough quarterfinal match against powerhouse Clayton at Shaw Park in Clayton, Missouri. The Greyhounds dominated the competition, winning five out of five matches to secure a spot in the Class 1 state championship in Springfield.
Clayton’s Spencer Pompian and Joe Major delivered impressive performances, shutting out North County’s Ethan Guggenberger and Noah Stark in singles matches. The doubles team of Pompian and He also defeated Guggenberger and Murphy with a score of 8-0.
Despite the loss, North County had a strong showing earlier in the week, defeating Lutheran South 5-0 in a sectional match. Zeb Murphy and Caleb Pack led the way with singles victories, while the doubles teams of Guggenberger/Murphy, Stark/Whitfield, and McDowell/Pack secured wins to advance to the next round.
Stark and Whitfield will now represent North County in the Class 1 state doubles competition, where they will face the Bolivar duo of Cy Douglas and Seth Martin in the first round.
Although the season ended on a tough note for North County, the team can be proud of their accomplishments and the hard-fought battles they faced throughout the season. Congratulations to the Raiders on a successful season and best of luck to Stark and Whitfield in the state doubles competition.
