Closure of Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge from May 24 to May 27

The Ministry of Transportation has announced that the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be completely closed the weekend of May 24 for important changes to be made. The bridge will reopen on May 27 with a new configuration that includes a reversible lane to manage traffic more efficiently.

Currently, the bridge has two lanes for traffic heading to Vaudreuil-Dorion and one lane for Montreal-bound vehicles. The ministry plans to reconfigure the bridge approaches on Highway 40 to maintain two lanes in each direction between Anciens-Combattants Blvd. and the bridge, as well as between the bridge and Exit 35. Additionally, the right lane of Highway 40 towards Montreal will be reserved exclusively for Exit 35.

The changes are being implemented as work on the bridge progresses and workers require less space. In the meantime, improved train services will continue to be offered, including over 300 temporary parking spots near the Vaudreuil train station and bus terminus.

The ministry also announced that certain free train and bus services will continue to be available next week, but starting on June 3, public transit users will need to purchase tickets, albeit with a 25% discount on 10-ticket packages. Furthermore, the toll on Highway 30, which is currently suspended in the morning for eastbound drivers, will be reinstated on May 27.

The ministry’s long-term plan includes opening all lanes on the current bridge by autumn and having five lanes open on a new bridge by the end of 2026. By the end of 2027, two new structures with a total of six lanes are scheduled to open. However, the ministry warns that the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge, along with Highway 40, will be completely closed on several more weekends throughout the summer.
