Reading Time: < 1 minute

Alice Stewart, a prominent Republican strategist and political commentator on CNN, has passed away at the age of 58. The news of her death was confirmed by CNN, stating that her body was found outdoors in Northern Virginia early Saturday morning. While authorities suspect a medical emergency, the exact cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Mark Thompson, CNN’s chief executive, praised Stewart as a seasoned political veteran and Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought a unique perspective to the network’s coverage. Stewart had been a conservative commentator on CNN since the 2016 presidential race, following a career working on various Republican presidential campaigns.

Stewart served as the communications director for Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign and held similar roles in subsequent elections for candidates such as Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Ted Cruz. She also had experience as the deputy secretary of state in Arkansas and was a fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2020.

Known for her conservative views, Stewart saw herself as a faithful promoter of conservatism during a time when the Republican Party was undergoing significant changes under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership. In her work at CNN, she aimed to provide a conservative voice while maintaining her independence as a thinker.

Stewart’s career transitioned from journalism to politics in 2005 when she became press secretary in Huckabee’s administration. Reflecting on her career, she expressed a love for covering politics and breaking news. Born in Atlanta, Stewart earned a degree in broadcast news and political science from the University of Georgia.

Her last appearance on CNN was on “The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer” on Friday. Details about survivors were not immediately available, leaving colleagues and viewers mourning the loss of a respected political commentator.
