Colby Covington sets sights on Belal Muhammad or Charles Oliveira after Ian Machado Garry fight falls through

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Colby Covington has officially moved on from Ian Machado Garry, setting his sights on new opponents in the UFC welterweight division. The three-time UFC title challenger made the announcement in an interview with Submission Radio, stating that the ship has sailed on a potential bout with Garry despite the ongoing back and forth between the two fighters.

Covington expressed his frustration with Garry, criticizing his recent performance against Geoff Neal and questioning his relevance in the division. He emphasized that a fight with Garry would do nothing for his career and instead issued challenges to former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and current No. 1 welterweight contender Belal Muhammad.

The 36-year-old fighter has been out of action since his loss to UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards in December, marking his third unsuccessful title challenge. Covington has only won two of his past five bouts since late 2019 and has been sidelined with a foot injury sustained in the Edwards bout.

Despite the setbacks, Covington is determined to make a strong comeback, targeting a return to the octagon in the autumn of 2024. He emphasized the importance of fully recovering from his injury and regaining strength in his left leg before stepping back into competition.

As Covington prepares for his UFC comeback, fans are eagerly anticipating his next move in the welterweight division and the potential matchups that lie ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on Covington’s journey back to the top of the UFC ranks.
