Philip Barbour High School’s baseball team clinched the Class AA, Region II, Section 1 title in a thrilling 5-4 victory over Lincoln on Saturday night in Philippi. Freshman Anthony Mosesso played the hero, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win for the Colts.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with Philip Barbour taking an early 4-0 lead before Lincoln fought back to tie the game in the sixth and seventh innings. A crucial two-run error allowed the Cougars to even the score, setting the stage for Mosesso’s game-winning walk.

Pitcher Albert Gonzales was a standout performer for Philip Barbour, striking out 12 batters and allowing just three hits over 6 2/3 innings. His stellar performance on the mound helped the Colts secure the sectional title and advance to the regional round.

Philip Barbour will now face either Herbert Hoover or Lewis County in the best-of-three regional series. Herbert Hoover currently holds a 6-1 lead in a game that was suspended due to weather and will resume today. A win by Herbert Hoover would force a deciding game for the sectional title on Tuesday.

The Colts’ victory over Lincoln was a hard-fought and well-deserved triumph, showcasing the team’s talent and determination on the field. With their eyes set on the regional championship, Philip Barbour is poised to continue their winning streak and make a strong push in the postseason.
