Philip Barbour staged an impressive comeback to secure a 7-4 victory over Elkins in a thrilling Big 10 Conference matchup on Tuesday night at EHS Field.
The game started with Philip Barbour taking an early lead with a solo homer by Tyler Sisson in the third inning. However, Elkins fought back and scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Tigers extended their lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning, but Philip Barbour responded with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to narrow the gap.
In the seventh inning, the Colts exploded for four runs to take the lead for good. Dayton Morrison’s RBI groundout tied the game at 4-4 before Jack Wilson’s run-producing single put Philip Barbour ahead. Kale Wolfe then added two more runs to make it 7-4.
Kent Rowan closed out the game for the Colts, striking out the side after allowing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh.
Both teams had strong offensive performances, with multiple players recording multiple hits. Grant Harris pitched well for Philip Barbour, while Ethan Humphrey put in a solid performance for Elkins.
With the win, Philip Barbour improved to 9-8 on the season and will face Liberty next. Elkins, on the other hand, will look to bounce back against Fairmont Senior in their next game.
