Columbus Academy Boys Tennis Team Clinches District Championship

In a thrilling showdown, the Columbus Academy boys tennis team secured their second consecutive district championship with a 3-1 victory over Bexley in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Division II district final. The highlight of the match was the intense second singles showdown between Nason Lo of Columbus Academy and Sam Lessard of Bexley.

With the team score tied at 1-1, all eyes were on Lo as he battled it out on the court. The pressure was on as Lo realized that the fate of the Vikings’ championship rested on his match. With his teammates cheering him on and the crowd chanting his name after every point, Lo delivered a stunning performance, ultimately winning the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the victory for Columbus Academy.

“It got really packed,” said Lo, reflecting on the overwhelming support from his team and fans. “I like it when I’m up, but when I’m down I don’t bring the energy as much. When I’m (ahead), I do. I worked up enough energy to start coming back.”

The win secured Columbus Academy’s spot in the state tournament at the College of Wooster next Saturday. Coach Preston Eberlyn praised his team’s competitive spirit and determination, noting that they fought hard on every court.

Bexley, who had defeated Columbus Academy earlier in the season, put up a tough fight but ultimately fell short. The victory marked the third consecutive district final between the two teams, with Columbus Academy emerging victorious once again.

With their eyes set on the state title, Columbus Academy will face tough competition in the upcoming matches. The team’s resilience and teamwork have propelled them to success, and they are ready to take on the challenge ahead.
