The Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism is inviting locals to celebrate the 41st National Travel & Tourism Week by becoming tourists in their own town. This week highlights the importance of travel for the economy, businesses, and personal well-being. Locals are encouraged to explore their city and experience all it has to offer.
One of the suggested activities is the Georgia’s Rome Outdoor Passport, where locals can complete various outdoor experiences and claim a free exclusive Georgia’s Rome T-shirt. The passport includes locations like Angel in the Oak, Blossom Hill Trail, The Labyrinth of Rome, and Opera Alley.
Additionally, there is a Georgia’s Rome Photo Contest where locals can submit photos of area attractions for a chance to win prizes. The contest is open until June 16.
To further celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, the Georgia Peanut Commission is giving away free peanuts at the Georgia’s Rome Welcome Centers on May 21.
Other activities include touring Rome’s rivers on the Sulzbacher Roman Holiday Riverboat, attending Rome Emperors Baseball games, exploring museums, participating in tennis and pickleball, enjoying outdoor attractions, dining and shopping, and utilizing free downtown transportation.
According to reports from Tourism Economics, tourism in Rome and Floyd County generated $145.6 million in total visitor spending in 2022, supporting 1,552 jobs in the service and hospitality industries. The tourism industry also generated $12 million in state and local tax revenues. Locals are encouraged to take advantage of all the attractions and activities their town has to offer during National Travel & Tourism Week.
