Businesses are gearing up to capitalize on the upcoming total solar eclipse set to darken skies across North America on Monday, April 8, 2024. From snack collaborations to special flight paths, companies are finding creative ways to cash in on this rare celestial event.

Krispy Kreme has partnered with Oreo to create a limited edition doughnut-cookie creation, while Sonic Drive-In is offering a “Blackout Slush Float” for eclipse enthusiasts. Frito-Lay’s SunChips has even unveiled a new flavor that will only be available during the nearly 4 and a half minutes of totality.

MoonPie has launched a “Sun vs. Moon” campaign, promoting an “eclipse survival kit” that includes mini MoonPies and eclipse glasses. Airlines like Southwest and Delta are advertising eclipse-viewing flight paths, and small businesses along the prime path are preparing for an influx of tourists.

Local vendors are selling eclipse safety glasses, T-shirts with clever slogans, and other astronomical souvenirs. Eclipse-themed beer, specialty dining packages, and watch parties at amusement parks, wineries, and zoos are also on offer.

This isn’t the first time companies have capitalized on a total solar eclipse. In 2017, Krispy Kreme released limited-edition chocolate glazed doughnuts for the event. This year, the Krispy Kreme-Oreo collaboration will be available from Friday through Monday, giving eclipse watchers a tasty treat to enjoy during this rare celestial phenomenon.
