Company says Elon Musk’s Starlink services restored, ‘back up and running’ following one-hour outage

Billionaire Elon Musk’s satellite internet platform Starlink faced a major outage on May 29, affecting thousands of users. The outage, which lasted for at least an hour, impacted over 41,000 users, according to data from Downdetector.com. Starlink, owned by Musk’s SpaceX, reported over 240 outages in the last 24 hours, causing disruptions for its customers.

However, the services are now back up and running smoothly. In a statement, Starlink confirmed that the network issue has been fully resolved. The company, which owns a significant share of the satellites orbiting Earth, is a dominant player in the satellite internet business segment, competing with companies like OneWeb, Telesat, and Viasat.

Despite the recent outage, Starlink has been making significant strides in its expansion plans. Earlier this month, the company crossed 3 million users in 99 countries and announced its Asia expansion plans. Musk visited Indonesia to launch the Starlink service and discussed opportunities with Sri Lanka’s President for expanding services in the region.

While Musk was scheduled to visit India for big announcements related to Starlink and a potential electric vehicle factory, the trip was cancelled due to his busy schedule. However, Musk has expressed his intention to visit India later this year to make the planned announcements. Starlink’s recent outage highlights the challenges of providing reliable satellite internet services, but the company remains committed to expanding its reach and improving its offerings for users worldwide.
