Competition and Fun Thrive at Tennis Club

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Taylor University’s athletic facilities are buzzing with activity this spring, with not just student-athletes but also professors and students participating in various sports and games. From early morning pickleball matches to intense soccer games and spirited dodgeball tournaments, the campus is alive with athletic energy.

One group that is making a mark on campus is the Tennis Club. Started as a response to the discontinuation of tennis as a varsity sport in 2020, the club has grown to include about 30 students, with 15 playing consistently. Led by sophomore Lily Humerickhouse and Corbin Helweg, the club welcomes players of all skill levels, emphasizing fun and inclusivity.

Practices for the Tennis Club run twice a week, with a mix of gameplay, drills, and fun tennis-related games like “Queen of the Court.” The club also organizes matches against other schools, with a recent trip to Ball State for a match.

Humerickhouse, the vice president of the club, highlights the sense of community and camaraderie that comes with being part of the Tennis Club. She values the opportunity to meet and connect with students from different backgrounds while enjoying a sport they all love.

For those hesitant to join due to skill level or commitment concerns, Humerickhouse encourages students to give it a try. The club offers a structured yet pressure-free environment for students to engage in sports and build relationships.

As the spring season comes to a close, Tennis Club members are already looking forward to hitting the courts again in the fall. For those interested in being part of the vibrant intramural and club sports community at Taylor University, joining the Tennis Club could be the perfect way to stay active, have fun, and make lasting memories.
