Concord Township resident receives 9-month sentence for felony weapons charge

A Concord Township man has been sentenced to 9 months in jail for a third-degree felony weapons charge after allegedly firing shots at another motorist in a road rage incident.

The incident occurred on November 4, when deputies were called to Cherry Tree Lane in Painesville Township for reports of gunshots. The victim, a 33-year-old Painesville Township resident, claimed he was being followed while driving along Johnnycake Ridge Road in Concord Township.

The victim made several lane changes and drove into Brentwood Drive in Painesville, with the suspect vehicle still following. As the victim headed towards Chestnut Street in Concord Township, he heard two gunshots coming from the suspect vehicle behind him.

Feeling threatened, the victim exited his vehicle with his own firearm and pointed it at the suspect vehicle. The victim then fired two shots in self-defense as the suspect vehicle pulled up behind him. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau investigated the case and identified the suspect as 35-year-old Corey Howard of Concord Township. Howard was indicted on charges including having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.

On May 23, Howard was sentenced to 9 months in prison by Judge Patrick J. Condon at the Lake County Common Pleas Court. Evidence, including the firearm used, was recovered during the investigation.
