Congressional Members Honor D-Day with Personal Parachute Jump in Normandy

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In a rare display of bipartisanship, a group of U.S. lawmakers from the House of Representatives is gearing up for a commemorative parachute jump at Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Led by Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., the group of 10 congressmen, all veterans themselves, will pay tribute to the U.S. and Allied troops who played a pivotal role in ending World War II.

The lawmakers believe that in a time of political division, it is important for Americans to see their representatives coming together to honor the veterans. Rep. Waltz, a former Army officer and Green Beret, emphasized the significance of passing on the legacy of the Greatest Generation to younger generations.

Rep. Crow, who served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment, highlighted the importance of honoring the veterans who served in World War II and the values they stood for. The jump, scheduled for Friday, will be a symbolic gesture of solidarity and remembrance.

The group of lawmakers, which includes a mix of military veterans from different generations, aims to show that America is at its best when it puts aside self-interest and works towards a common goal. Despite political differences, the lawmakers are united in their mission to honor the sacrifices made by the veterans of World War II.

As they prepare for the jump, the lawmakers have undergone training and recertification to ensure their safety. With vintage aircraft and period paratrooper uniforms, they will reenact the historic D-Day landing on a smaller scale, paying homage to the thousands of U.S. and Allied troops who fought bravely to liberate Europe from Nazi control.

As the world faces new challenges, the lawmakers hope that the message of unity and courage from the D-Day anniversary events will inspire people to stand up against tyranny and injustice. With assurances of safety from Rep. Waltz, the group is ready to make the historic jump and honor the legacy of the Greatest Generation.
