Congressman Nick Langworthy Visits Thriving Small Businesses in Dunkirk

Just days before National Small Business Week, Congressman Nick Langworthy made a special trip to Dunkirk to visit with two local businesses that are not only surviving but thriving despite challenges. Langworthy’s visit on Thursday morning included stops at Add Lumber True Value and Central Station restaurant in Dunkirk.

Accompanied by Dan Heitzenrater, President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce, Langworthy met with Louise Lanski of Add Lumber True Value, a family-run business that has been serving the community for generations. Langworthy praised Lanski and her family for their dedication to the business, highlighting the importance of small businesses in the community.

Despite facing rising costs of materials and a shortage of contractors due to the pandemic, Add Lumber has managed to stay on track with its Dunkirk location and two other branches in Westfield and Irving. Langworthy commended the resilience of the business and its ability to adapt to challenging circumstances.

At Central Station restaurant, Langworthy observed the challenges faced by the restaurant industry, particularly in finding and retaining experienced kitchen staff. However, he also noted the restaurant’s success in pivoting to focus on takeout orders during the pandemic, which led to a significant increase in profits.

Langworthy described both Add Lumber and Central Station as “great barometers of the community” and praised them as examples of the American dream in action. He expressed his pride in speaking with the owners and employees of these businesses, emphasizing the importance of supporting small businesses in the local economy.

Overall, Langworthy’s visit highlighted the resilience and innovation of small businesses in Dunkirk and served as a reminder of the vital role they play in the community. As he prepared to return to Washington, Langworthy expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to connect with these thriving businesses and celebrate their success.
