Construction in progress on Leicestershire’s inaugural ‘garden village’ featuring a Hollywood-style sign

Construction has officially begun on Leicestershire’s first ‘garden village’, Broadnook, which will feature nearly 2,000 homes along with various amenities. The development, located between Birstall and Rothley, will include a village center, supermarket, primary school, retirement village, GP surgery, sports facilities, and allotments.

A spokesperson for the project revealed that a “Hollywood-style” sign has been erected at the site, standing at 9ft tall and symbolizing a grand beginning for the new village. The sign will age to a beautiful burnt orange color over time, adding to the charm of the location.

Named after an ancient spinney on the site, Broadnook Garden Village will offer leafy tree-lined walks reminiscent of Leicester’s New Walk. More than half of the development will be dedicated to green spaces, with car-free zones to ensure the safety and freedom of residents.

Mayor of Charnwood Councillor Margaret Smidowicz expressed her excitement about the project, highlighting its thoughtful design and long-term benefits for the community. The development is expected to be a significant investment, with over £17 million allocated for local schools.

With easy access to nearby towns and cities, including Leicester, Loughborough, and Nottingham, Broadnook Garden Village aims to provide a modern and connected living experience while preserving the natural beauty of the Charnwood area. The first residents are anticipated to move in this autumn, marking a new chapter for the region.
