Siemens Mobility and Hassan Allam Construction have signed a contract to build a new railway in the Gulf region, connecting Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The project, known as the East-West rail project, will span 303km and is part of a larger initiative to link the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The consortium, comprising Siemens Mobility and Hassan Allam Construction, will be responsible for designing, building, and integrating the ETCS Level 2 signaling, telecom, and power supply systems for the first line of the network project. The line, named Hafeet Rail, will connect the Omani port city of Sohar with the UAE National Railway network, facilitating the movement of passengers and goods between the two countries.

While the project aims to boost tourism, its primary focus is on enhancing trade and improving the efficiency of the supply chain system. Ayman Ashour, CEO of Siemens Mobility in the UAE, expressed his pride in being entrusted with this strategic project, highlighting its potential to drive social and economic development in both countries and the wider region.

Hassan Allam, Chairman of Hassan Allam Construction, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Siemens Mobility in delivering advanced signaling solutions for safe and seamless transportation between the UAE and Oman. The collaboration between the two companies, which have a successful track record in Egypt, is set to extend to other regional countries, further strengthening their presence in the Gulf region.

The railway project is expected to have a significant impact on the transportation infrastructure of the Gulf region, connecting key cities and facilitating the movement of goods and people. The signing of the contract marks a milestone in the development of the East-West rail project and sets the stage for future collaborations between Siemens Mobility, Hassan Allam Construction, and other regional partners.

The construction of the railway is set to commence soon, with both companies committed to delivering a high-quality and efficient transportation system that will benefit the economies and societies of Oman and the UAE.
