Contrast between PM Modi’s opulent lifestyle and ascetic principles

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of leading a lavish lifestyle while neglecting the needs of the people. The ruling party in Bengal highlighted the stark contrast between Modi’s self-proclaimed ascetic existence and the dedicated public service of their national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee.

The TMC pointed out how Banerjee immediately visited relief camps and canceled public meetings after the cyclone ‘Remal’ hit the state, while the BJP chose to attack Banerjee instead of showing empathy towards the cyclone victims. The ruling party in Bengal also criticized Modi’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting Banerjee’s initiatives such as the ‘Kalpataru’ scheme to provide cooked food and the ‘Doctors on Wheels’ initiative for instant medical assistance.

Accusing Modi of spending taxpayers’ money on expensive outfits, watches, sunglasses, and shoes, the TMC alleged that funds for important schemes like MGNREGA and Awas Yojana for Bengal have been blocked for three years. The party took to social media to mock Modi’s claims of being a ‘fakir’ by highlighting his extravagant lifestyle, including an Rs. 80 lakh hotel bill and luxury items like Maybach sunglasses and Swiss Movado watches.

TMC leader Jawhar Sircar and spokesperson Riju Dutta criticized the BJP for attacking Banerjee while ignoring Modi’s opulent lifestyle. Sircar pointed out Modi’s expensive possessions like a Rs. 8500 crore plane and luxury accessories, while Dutta questioned why Modi had stopped the rightful dues of the poor people of Bengal to fund his lavish lifestyle.

As Modi prepares to visit Bengal, the TMC has posed tough questions to the Prime Minister, urging him to refrain from making predictions about the election outcome in the state. The party demanded answers from Modi on why he blocked important schemes for Bengal following their defeat in the 2021 Assembly elections, accusing him of being a “migratory bird” who only visits during elections and lacks a true understanding of the state’s needs.

The TMC’s strong criticism of Modi’s lifestyle and policies reflects the ongoing political tensions between the ruling party in Bengal and the BJP. As the state gears up for crucial elections, the war of words between the two parties is likely to intensify, with each side seeking to gain the upper hand in the battle for power and influence.
